Tripping of circuit breakers
Kendrion is a manufacturer of electromagnetic trip coils and direct drives for energy technology.
Trip coils are the release components in circuit breakers used in energy distribution for the switching of high currents. It is their task to interrupt fault currents/voltages so that downstream systems are not damaged. The trip coil triggering solenoid initiates this separation mechanism. In case of fault currents/voltages, the specially optimized trip coils trigger a mechanism that separates the electrical contacts.
While in low voltage applications, the protection of downstream machines or motors is paramount in medium and high voltage applications, it is all about the protection of the energy transmission network.
Electromagnetic trip coils are specially designed linear solenoids which meet the requirements in the field of energy distribution. Based on energy availability, power requirement, installation space, and environmental requirements, the optimum solenoid design is determined.
Direct drives for circuit breakers
Kendrion is also developing direct drives for current interruption in the circuit breakers. The special electromagnets are packed with sheet metal or in a closed steel housing. Depending on the design, the electromagnetic actuators achieve a stroke of 2 to 100 mm and a force of 100 to 40,000 N.
